KAPALUA

Five-star fine dining, championship golf courses, and award-winning beaches.

Welcome to Kapalua

The area of Kapalua was once a 24,000-acre ranch named Honolua. In the early 1900s, it became Baldwin Packers, the largest producer of pineapple in the country.  A 5th generation Baldwin wanted to preserve some of its natural beauty and decided to turn it into a master-planned community. Today, Kapalua is still surrounded by stunningly beautiful open spaces and a working pineapple plantation.

Kapalua has two championship golf courses. Legendary golfer Arnold Palmer designed the Bay Course. The newer Plantation Course runs through canyons with panoramic ocean views. Kapalua is also home to five bays and sparkling white sand beaches. It’s partnered with the Audubon Society and Nature Conservancy to help preserve the area's lush landscape and unique environment.

Local Lifestyle

Kapalua has less than 500 residents who value their peace and privacy. It’s a tight-knit community with long-time neighbors who know each other and often get together. Surrounded by the mountains and the sea, residents have an outdoorsy and active lifestyle, hiking and swimming year-round.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Kapalua is home to some excellent fine dining. Merriman’s Kapalua is a renowned oceanfront restaurant serving a prix-fixe farm-to-table menu that changes constantly. Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar are highly rated for their Japanese and Pacific Rim fare. They also host karaoke on the weekends. In the Napili Kai Beach Resort, Sea House Restaurant is a popular spot for breakfast and happy hour. Famed for their macadamia nut pancakes, the Gazebo in the Napili Shores condo complex always has long wait times to be seated, but everyone agrees it’s worth the wait. At the Montage, Cane and Canoe have upscale Hawaiian fare, a wine list, and handcrafted cocktails. For Italian, rustic-chic Taverna Maui has pizza, pasta, and specialty cocktails, and The Pour House is an upscale eatery and wine bar specializing in authentic Italian dishes. Honolua Farms Kitchen makes banana bread and lemonade right from their farm.

Right on the golf course, The Plantation House serves elegant island fare and views from the 19th hole. The Plantation and Bay Golf Shops have clothing and equipment with their signature butterfly logo. A neighborhood landmark since it opened in 1920, the Honolua Store in town has fresh fruits, baked goods, espresso, beer, and wine, as well as clothing and gifts. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Napili Farmers’ Markets has specialty vendors, craft products, baked goods, organic produce, and live music.

Things to Do

Kapalua Bay was once named “America’s Best Beach.” The white sand beach and crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and scuba diving. In the winter watch, watch experienced surfers ride the big waves at Honolua Bay. Honolua is also the final top for the ASP Woman’s World Tour. Next to Kapalua Resort, Oneloa Bay is less crowded and has a shallow reef great for snorkeling. You can also head to the mountains. Mahana Ridge Trail has a 10-mile out-and-back hike. Of course, Kapalua is known for its championship golf courses. The Bay Course is challenging and famous for its 17th hole, the only hole to play over the ocean of Maui. The Plantation Course consistently ranks as one of the best in Hawaii, where Tiger Woods and other legendary golfers have played. It offers dramatic elevation changes, downhill tee shots, and stunning views.
